Meet Estella
What motivated you to create your skincare line?
‘First of all, my daughter Liv. When I look at her, I see the future. I want her to grow up in a world where natural and organic ingredients are the rule and not just an exception. For that I wanted to create honest organic products that work, with sustainably sourced high-quality ingredients and packaging. For our next generation. So that they don’t have to think about possible harmful, unnatural ingredients which could affect our planet or their skin. Second: ‘I have always loved natural beauty and selfcare, it’s something you can do to make yourself happy.’
Why don't you compromise?
'Because there is no need to compromise. When I became a skincare formulator I discovered that truly clean, organic and effective skincare is possible and accessible. It took me years to be at the point where I am right now. Because I wanted it all: knowledge, formulating, sustainably sourced ingredients and packaging. And how to minimise the CO2 footprint to have the least harmful environmental impact. I wasn't going to settle for anything less. And luckily - with determination and perseverance- I didn’t need to.’
What’s your skin care ritual?
‘I double cleanse my skin (am and pm), followed by eye serum, facial oil and an spf. Besides this I believe in ancient skin care rituals, like using a Gua Sha facial tool and botanical clay masks which I both do quite often.’
What’s your beauty style?
‘I think it is best described as natural, I don’t use make-up and actually never really did. I always carry some LIV products in my bag which I can use during the day. I love to keep that glow on my skin.’
What are your favourite LIV products?
Impossible question! I love all my products simply because I’ve formulated them myself. But I really can’t without The Cleanser, The Luminous eye serum and The Beauty facial serum.
What makes you smile?
My eight-year-old daughter who came up with “business” ideas for LIV: ‘Let’s open a LIV shop where I can sell organic cookies and candy for the kids while you sell your skincare.
Matcha lattes, raw chocolate, green juices and kombucha also add to my happiness.
What makes you sad?
Well, for sure the current climate crisis we're part of. We all are responsible and need to take action.
Related to the beauty biz, greenwashing, overpriced beauty products and beauty products with micro plastics and other nasties in it. Heavily processed plant oils that are completely stripped of their nutrients and vitamins. Companies that still don’t seem to care about the environmental impact.
Besides this… superficial, fake and or complex people. Or when my idea for a new formula turns out into a disaster.
Do you have skincare tips?
I believe everyone can have a beautiful skin. There is a deep connection between the inside and outside. Beauty comes from within. In other words, only taking good care of your skin on the surface is not enough. Plant-rich food full with vitamins, nutrients and essential fatty acids is as important as sleep, having no stress and being careful with sun rays and so on. Good skin is a lifestyle.
